about

Doing justice to the title from beginning to end, and proving that they could not haven chosen a better one for their much awaited second album (or third, counting Duat (Limbo Starr 2010), EP of the year according to Rockdelux magazine,) Encanto (Spanish for "Charm," "Delight," or "Magic Spell") proves a gigantic step forward for this well respected band after their critically acclaimed debut, which Go! magazine named Record of the Year, and Rockdelux hailed as one of the best of the decade.

As inspiring and bewitching as true love, this instant classic demonstrates how Cuchillo, taking each song as a piece of the whole, define pop music (in these 10 songs and more than 40 minutes of amazing music, full of light and intensity) in the unique way that only Israel Marco, Daniel Domínguez, and the now-official member Henrik Ågren could have conceived.

The result is on the same level as the best work of Low, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes and The Walkmen, to name a few of their contemporaries. But they are from Barcelona, they sing in Spanish, and they connect the best of distinct musical eras and styles from other continents. Among their diverse influences, certain names stick out, such as Donovan, Caetano Veloso, George Harrison, Robert Wyatt, Neil Young, Popol Vuh, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Eduardo Mateo, Los Brincos, David Crosby, Peter Gabriel, and Dead Can Dance, to name but a few.
Cuchillo weave a complex tapestry with their unique sound, incorporating African textures and exoticism and filtering them through their personal vision of music and all its hypnotic and intoxicating power.

Cuchillo, who for many deliver the best live show of any Spanish group, start their engines 4 years after their debut. They officially presented their new record at this year's Primavera Sound festival, and were also selected by Portishead to open their show on the same month of june. In September they will be touring in the US for their 3rd time presenting this songs in citys like L.A., San Francisco, Fresno, Portland, Seattle...a great oportunity to discover their "Encanto".
